The Toyota Yaris Sedan was introduced to the American marketplace in 2007 as the replacement for the Toyota Echo. The Yaris is a subcompact car and is Toyota's most economical offering, appealing to younger drivers and those who are seeking a relatively inexpensive and fuel friendly small car. Although new to the United States, the Yaris was named the 'Car of the Year' for the 2000 model year and went on to become the best selling sub compact in Europe. The design of the four door Yaris sedan is unusual, however the interior is surprisingly roomy and comfortable and it has successfully has inspired a 'fun to drive' review from most industry experts.
This five passenger vehicle features a 1.5 liter inline four cylinder engine that delivers 106 horsepower. A five speed manual transmission is standard, while a four speed automatic transmission is optional. Handling is good, adding an element of fun to driving winding roads.
In an effort to keep this car economically priced, features that are often standard are few and far between, though many comfort and convenience options can be purchased separately. Standard features do include air conditioning, a tilt steering wheel and tinted glass. The addition of the 'S' model trim package will gain you 15" wheels, a CD player with MP3 capability and auxiliary input jack as well as a split folding rear seat. The Yaris sedan can be further enhanced with options such as a rear spoiler, power locks and windows, keyless entry and fog lamps.
Although the Toyota Yaris is no way an impressive vehicle, with the exception of excellent gas mileage. With the ability to get up to 40 miles a gallon with a standard transmission, the eleven gallon tank will not need filling very often. The Yaris does carry Toyota's reputation for mechanical reliability and safety and is a good car for basic transportation needs.
