Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4WD

Though many associate Chevrolet's early 20th century trucks with the Silverado, it was not until 1975 that the name was ever used. The Silverado badge was a trim level of the C/K pickup from 1975 until 1999. However, the 1999 model year made the Silverado a standalone model. It was then that the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4WD became a household name across America. This light duty pickup was one of the most adaptable models on the road, with towing and hauling capabilities, off-road accessibility, and a comfortable and quiet cab. The half-ton Silverado 4WD has been virtually unchanged since its inception in 1999. Engine modifications and standard options have been the major adjustments, while the exterior has remained understated. Initially, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was available with three engine choices: 4.3L Vortec V6, 4.8L Vortec V8, or 5.3L Vortec V8. The engine got a boost in 2006 when Chevrolet introduced a more powerful 6.0L Vortec 6000 V8. Since the beginning, the Silverado has had three cab options. The two-door short cab provides seating for three passengers with a bench seat, while the extended cab and crew cab both feature four doors. Also available from the start is the choice of either a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission. Horsepower has gone from a meager 195 in 1999 to an impressive 367 horsepower in the latest 2008 model. special editions of the 1500 4WD have been released over the years. The 2002 Denali edition had improved towing and hauling capabilities, while the 2003 Silverado SS was a high-performance version of the model. However, the most innovative edition has been the hybrid, which was first released in 2005. While the hybrid technology utilized in the Silverado was mild at best, it became the very first hybrid model to be mass produced by the manufacturer. Also, since 2001 a heavy duty version of the 1500 has been available to the American public. Though the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4WD is due for an exterior upgrade, the majority of critics and consumers are content with the model's current adaptation. Not only that, the maker only has minor changes in store for the upcoming model year. Though the pickup has been primarily a working man's truck, Hollywood has embraced its "down home" aesthetic and used it in many films and television shows. Featured on T.V. programs like Showtime's Weeds, the apocalyptic hit Jericho, and the classic drama Dallas, the Silverado has gained a widespread appeal. Blockbuster hits like The Dukes of Hazzard, Varsity Blues, and The 6th Day have given the light duty pickup a role as well.
